Sid Meier's Civilization 6

Created concepts and icon sets, and owned artistic delivery of the 2D Strategic View.

Art Intern

  • Concepted isometric historical landmarks into established visual style.
  • Designed prominent UI icon collections such as civilization identity and natural resources.
  • Designed aesthetic and owned asset production of the 2D mode of the 3D gameboard.

Concepts

I worked with the extremely talented environment team while Civ 6 was in its later stages of production, and the art style had been well established. I created Improvements that scaled through different eras while having a consistent silhouette and footprint as well as a few of the World Wonders.

 Icons & Strategic View

I was tapped to do resource icons and each starting civilization's icon, where I worked under Whitney Tyner's direction. These were a very fun challenge.
One of the last tasks I worked on was completely translating the game into the 2D "Strategic View" mode, which included creating Fog of War states for each sprite as well as variations for tiling sprites like terrain types. I ended up working closely with graphics engineer Marek Vojtko and using the studio's art tools to import these directly into the build. It was my first experience with true implementation and it would not be my last in the projects to come!
